Visuals editor del The New Yorker per 15 anni (dal 1996 allo scorso marzo), picture editor per Stern, Vanity Fair Usa e GEO Usa, amica personale dei più grandi fotografi del nostro tempo da Richard Avedon a Helmuth Newton, Elisabeth Biondi è uno degli straordinari ospiti del LUCCA PHOTO FEST di quest’anno.
Con la sua verve e il suo intuito ha impresso uno stile e un’impronta inconfondibili ad alcune tra le più importanti riviste del mondo.
Nel 1996 giunta al New Yorker, raccolse e vinse la grande sfida di stravolgerne la veste e sviluppare un linguaggio fotografico appropriato, costruendone l’immagine che ormai contraddistingue la rivista. Un’avventura iniziata con Polidori, Newton, Avedon, e condivisa nel tempo con i più grandi fotografi contemporanei.
A Lucca, Elisabeth terrà in esclusiva per l’Italia, un workshop sul photoediting: partendo dal concetto che la selezione delle immagini più “forti” di un progetto non sia arbitraria, bensì si possa apprendere, impartirà le tecniche per riuscire ad esaltare sempre al massimo un lavoro fotografico.
Non smetto mai di sorprendermi nel costatare quanto sia difficile per I fotografi organizzare l’editing delle proprie immagini. Le motivazioni di questo sono svariate, ma una spicca su tutte le altre: I fotografi sono troppo coinvolti nel proprio lavoro, per poterne avere una visione obiettiva e riuscire a cogliere la reale forza delle loro immagini.
Elisabet Biondi sarà la madrina della consegna del Premio per il FOTOGIORNALISMO 2011 all’Agenzia VII Photos sul palco del Teatro del Giglio il 26 novembre, in un faccia a faccia con Stephen Mayes, Franco Pagetti e Antonin Kratochvil.

ELISABETH BIONDI
Visuals Editor for The New Yorker Magazine for 15 years (since 1996 till last March), picture editor for Stern magazine, Vanity Fair USA and GEO USA, intimate with the main photographers of our time, from Richard Avedon till Helmut Newton, Elisabeth Biondi is one of the extraordinary guests of LUCCA PHOTO FEST this year.
Thanks to her verve and intuition, she impressed an indelible style to some of the most important magazines of the world.
In 1996 she responded and won the challenge of The New Yorker to develop a language in photography that suited the magazine, setting its unmistakable, worldwide-recognized character. An adventure begun with Polidori, Newton and Avedon, and shared trough the years with the most important contemporary photographers.
In Lucca, Elisabeth will teach in a workshop about photo-editing: keeping in mind that the pictures selection is not arbitrary, but can be learned, Elisabeth Biondi will give the fundamentals to present the work at its best.
It never stops surprising me how difficult it seems to be for photographers to organize and edit their pictures. The reasons for this are manifold but one stands out: photographers are too close to their work to objectively identify the strength of their images.
Elisabeth Biondi will be on the stage of Teatro del Giglio on November the 26th to award VII PHOTO AGENCY with the PHOTOJOURNALISM PRIZE 2011 and she will have a “Face to Face” talk show with Stephen Mayes, Franco Pagetti and Antonin Kratochvil
